professor jim vaught, was appointed as the senior advisor to the president of shanghai clinical research center(scrc) on jan. 1st, 2014, who is currently also the senior advisor of biorepositories and biospecimen research branch (bbrb), cancer diagnosis program, division of cancer treatment and diagnosis, nci, president-elect of international society for biological and environmental repositories (isber) in 2015 and editor-in-chief of biopreservation and biobanking. he will provide technical direction, consultation and guidance to scrc for shanghai biobanking project and biobank development in china.
on march 31st, 2014, professor jim vaught arrived shanghai for a one-week consultation work as the senior advisor to the president of scrc. during the week, professor jim vaught discussed with professional scholars from beijing and shanghai the development trend of the biobanking and put forward suggestions for the ongoing government funded project on the major disease-based biobanks in shanghai. in the academic exchanges, professor jim vaught planned the china's special issue of "biopreservation and biobanking" with a lot of experts in the field, which made great progress. professor jim vaught also visited some typical biobanks in shanghai with some still under construction, and put forward many valuable suggestions on quality control, information management system and future use of biobank in china. at the end of the visit, professor jim vaught gave full recognition to china biobank development and proposed to establish a risk assessment system to further regulate the industry construction and to ensure the sustainable development of the industry.
professor jim vaught obtained ph.d. degree in biochemistry in medical college of georgia in 1977. he is currently the senior advisor of biorepositories and biospecimen research branch (bbrb), cancer diagnosis program, division of cancer treatment and diagnosis, nci, nih, one of the founders of international society for biological and environmental repositories (isber), chairman of isber in 2015 and editor-in-chief of biopreservation and biobanking. he was awarded as isber award for outstanding achievement in biobanking in 2013. professor jim vaught also member of biobank advisory boards in italy and france, etc. he has published about 70 publications in international renowned journals, possessing good reputation and popularity in the field of biobanking.
